Theia wins SIA New Product Showcase award at ISC West
ISC West, Las Vegas, NV: April 9, 2008
Theia Technologies wins the “Special Achievement in Innovation” award from the Security Industry Association (SIA) with the security world’s first ultra wide lens without barrel (fisheye) distortion. Theia Technologies, along with partner Nittoh Kogaku, is proud to accept one of the top 4 overall awards from the field of 104 New Product Showcase entrants, the most entrants in NPS history.

SIA judges recognized that Theia’s lens can save money in security installations. Now a megapixel camera with Theia’s ultra wide megapixel lens can replace several standard cameras, greatly reducing the cost of installation.
Theia’s cutting edge patented technology – Linear Optical Technology – makes it possible to design ultra wide lenses with optical barrel distortion correction. Theia’s SY125 series of lenses is distortion corrected up to 135deg HFOV eliminating the need for additional software.
One advantage of optical distortion correction is the increased image resolution at the edges of the image. This improves the ease of detection and identification. A second advantage is the improved speed and accuracy of video analytics routines. For on-board camera analytics, there is no need to include image frame memory and a de-warping algorithm, making it much easier for camera manufacturers to take full advantage of megapixel cameras with wide angle lenses.

Additionally, Theia’s lens is not proprietary for use with any one manufacturer’s camera. This was demonstrated by the inclusion of Theia’s lens in the booths of 8 camera manufacturers and partners at the ISC West show. The standard CS-mount lens can be used with any camera from high resolution up to 5 megapixels. No additional software or special lens alignment is required to give an undistorted ultra wide view.
