Technology

Theia Technologies in partnership with Nittoh Kogaku has designed ultra wide angle lenses using patented ultra wide angle no distortion lens technology Linear Optical Technology. The lens enables the viewer to take full advantage of the high resolution of today's CCTV and megapixel IP security cameras. With "More image - More security - More value", Theia's lenses offer ultra wide fields of view of up to 135° while maintaining very low distortion. Distortion correction is accomplished optically in the lens giving a crisp image from image center to edge.

More Value

Theia's lenses in combination with today's megapixel cameras and IP cameras enhances electronic PTZ functionality by increasing the field of view while requiring fewer cameras to monitor a scene. Monitoring high value assets such as electrical substations (as seen below) typically requires two cameras per corner looking in different directions. Theia's lens captures more than 90° horizontal field of view allowing fewer cameras to be installed and reducing the cost of installation. Our lenses have a field view of up to 135° while maintaining very low distortion.

Linear Optical Technology

Because distortion correction is done in the lens optically, no additional dewarping software or hardware is required. Images appear more natural and have greater resolution compared to lenses with barrel distortion such as fisheye lenses. With a fisheye lens, not only are there unilluminated pixels on the sensor (illuminating only about 2/3 of a 3 megapixel sensor) but the image gets compressed at the edges. Theia's rectilinear lens actually increases the object size closer to the image edges.

Another comparison showing straight lines (such as lights and the balcony railing) remain straight in the image.
