Theia Lens Plays Role in World Cup Controversy

Theia lens used in Space Chair Project

One of Theia's MY125M lenses hitched a ride to the edge of space with the help of Toshiba and JP Aerospace. As part of the Space Chair project, a promotional campaign put together by and for Toshiba's Regza Television, Theia's ultrawide, low distortion lens was chosen as one of the lenses for the project. The balloon launched chair set a new world record for the highest TV commercial at an altitude of nearly 100,000 feet, and so did our lens – beating its previous record of 60k feet on a NASA weather drone.

The lens (along with the cameras) fell back to Earth reaching speeds faster than the speed of sound and was recovered intact and in working condition.

How to calculate image resolution white paper

The detail in an image is determined by resolution. The shorter the lens focal length, the wider the field of view. Greater than about 90° most lenses start to show curved, barrel distorted images that compress the image at the edges. Rectilinear lenses such as those using Theia Technologies' Linear Optical Technology™ don't exhibit barrel distortion and thus maintain image resolution out to the edge of the image. ...[More]
